Federal Financial Aid Programs For Summer

Summer enrollment for financial aid purposes is treated as the end or “trailer” to the preceding award year, 2010-2011.  College of the Ouachitas offers three summer sessions in an effort to be responsive to the needs of the student body.  For the purposes of federal financial aid programs, the separate sessions are combined into one term for payment. The total summer enrollment is calculated on June 6, 2011, the census date for summer.   If you do not begin attendance in a class, your aid will be recalculated.
Pell Grant:  Students may be able to receive a summer Pell grant under the following conditions:

  1. A student has been a part time student in either Fall 2010 or Spring 2011 and still has remaining Pell grant funds out of the 2010-2011 academic year.
  2. A student is accelerating their program of study.  For example, you have received a Pell grant in Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 as a full time student and have completed at least 19 credit hours for the academic year. You must enroll in at least 6 credit hours to receive an additional Pell grant in the summer terms.  If any of your credit hours are in Summer III, your total aid package will not be determined until after Summer III semester starts. You must enroll in Summer III before June 6, 2011 in order to receive aid for the term.

Loans and other aid programs:  Loans, work-study and other aid programs are determined according to the policies in place for those programs.  Students may receive aid only up to the cost of attendance for the summer classes.  If a student has received the maximum loans allowed per academic year during the Fall and Spring terms, they cannot receive additional loans in the summer terms.  A student must be enrolled in at least six credit hours to receive a student loan in the summer terms.
Any student receiving federal aid must be eligible according to the satisfactory academic progress standards.  Transcripts will be evaluated at the end of the Spring term to determine eligibility for the summer terms.
Refund checks:  The business office will disburse federal aid funds and issue a refund check to students for account balances on June 24, 2011 for Summer I and II, and on July 13, 2011 for Summer III.
