Possible Name Change Information
RATIONALE
As Ouachita Technical College approaches its twentieth year as a college, the institution is entering a new phase in its history and for a variety of reasons, OTC should consider a new name. The current name fosters a misperception, conveying a limited scope of the college. As OTC enters an important era in its history, a new name will add to the awareness that the college is fulfilling its mission in diverse ways. The new name will not only reflect the currency of the variety of educational services of the college, but it will position the college for growth and expansion in the years to come. Renaming the institution will convey to the community a more dynamic approach to the multi-faceted mission of the college.
***New Information***
Ouachita Technical College continues its search for a new name that better reflects the full scope and mission of the college. The Name Change Committee, made up of faculty, staff, students, members of the board of trustees, and members of the Malvern-Hot Spring County community met Friday January 8th 2010 to narrow the list from the nine possible names which were presented to the Board on December 1st 2009.
After discussion and consideration, the Name Change Committee has now reduced the number of names to three.
Those names are:
- College of the Ouachitas
- Diamond State College
- Riverpark College
The committee, which considered hundreds of names from our constituents, will continue to seek the opinion of the people we serve. The articles in both local and regional newspapers have reported the college’s progress and have increased engagement and interest in this process. College employees have been approached by many interested community members whose participation we welcome.
